Despite the great effort that textbook writers make to meet the needs of the intended users,it is frequently necessary for teachers to adapt textbooks when they are actually used in the classroom.At present,there are no separate writing textbooks and courses for non-English majors in colleges.Instructions on how to write,as well as writing activities,are usually inadequate in the textbooks used by non-English majors.As a result,to make the teaching of writing more efficient and interesting,it is necessary for English teachers to adapt textbook activities and design new activities,which should be process-oriented and communicative. New College English is a textbook widely used by non- English majors.This essay takes one unit of the book as an example,to demonstrate the necessity of adapting the writing tasks in the book and show how to design new activities to supplement the textbook writing tasks.
