国家规定,公开发表的学术论文要有英文摘要。但是有不少英语医学论文摘要不合格。不少作者对英语医学论文摘要的文体、结构、要求。句子结构及用词特点缺乏基本了解，仅靠“汉英字典”翻译，比如把“疾病的发生（the occurrence of disease）译成“the appearance of disease”，不分“结果”（resuit）与“结局”（outcome）、“病人”（patient）与“病例”（case）、“效果”（effect）“影响”（affect）等。
