The Lujiaobao site is located at Sandouping lown in Yichang City, Hubei Province, im the wide Miaonan valley of the Xiling Gorge in the Three Gorges area, and is a typical terrace site in the Yangtze River valley. In 1993, the Hubei Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology carried out there an extensive rescuing excavation. The site has been seriously damaged and contains rather simple stratigraphical deposits. The discovered vestiges include ash-pits, ash-trenches, etc., which yielded various pottery vessels and a small number of broken stone tools. Chronologically the remains cover the time from the Neolithic through the Shang and Zhou period. Of them the Shang and Zhou ones are greater in quantity and of considerable significance to enriching Shang and Zhou archaeological material in the Three Gorges area and to furthering researches on the character and pedigree of the then archaeological culture in that district.
