According to the attribution theory, achievement attributions have significant consequences for subsequent achievement motivation and future behavior. This study sought to determine some of the causes to which junior students at vocational college attributed success or failure in their English learning. The results of the present study revealed that the majority of the students participated in the study identified themselves as unsuccessful English learners and collectively the students placed more importance on the causal attributions of interest in English learning, effort and teachers' help. When divided by their perceived learning performances (successful learners vs.unsuccessful),the successful learners placed more importance on English learning ability, interests in English, and teacher's help than did the unsuccessful ones. The paper analyzes the attribution tendency, gender difference and group difference as well.
