EFL teachers in China have come to realize that EFL teaching does not stop at the students' linguistic competence, but should go on to develop their communicative competence. To achieve this,it is essential for both teachers and students to be conscious of the sociolinguistic functions of languages and take measures to increase their cultural awareness. Therefore, this article suggests some tentative approaches to culture acquisition in English learning,in the hope of increasing efficiency of English learning for the Chinese students.
