Language is the most efficient way in cultural communication. As a cross lingual and cross cultural communicative activity, translation is controlled by cultural factors at all levels. Most difficulties in English Chinese translation are caused by cultural difference. Translators must compare various cultural factors in the two languages and keep their semantic and pragmatic functions as identical as possible. On the other hand, some cultural characteristics in the source language should be preserved if they don’t cause wrong imagination in the target language, which can offer Chinese language more cultural nourishment. As a result, English Chinese translation can give full play to its function in cultural communication.
