N-[4-(aminosulfonyl)phenyl]acrylamide (ASPAA) was synthesized through the reaction of acryloyl chloride with sulfanilamide, and copolymerized with acrylonitrile (AN) and methyl methacrylate (MMA),respectivety,in DMF solvent using benzoyl peroxide as initiator at(70±0.5)℃.The copolymer composition was determined by using elemental analysis and the reactivity ratios of ASPAA/AN and ASPAA/MMA copolymerization systems were calculated by employing the Fineman-Ross and the Kelen-Tudos methods. The values of r 1 and r 2 obtained by the two methods fitted well with each other, i.e.r 1(ASPAA)=1.43,r 2(AN)=0.44 by Fineman-Ross method and r 1(ASPAA)=1.39,r 2(AN)=0.43 by Kelen-Tudos method for ASPAA/AN copolymerization system, and r 1(ASPAA)=0.88,r 2(MMA)=1.42 by Fineman-Ross method and r 1(ASPAA)=0.83,r 2(AN)=1.35 by Kelen-Tudos method for ASPAA/MMA copolymerization system.
