As one of the latest-developed international relations theories,Constructivism with its core notion“social construction”inaugurated a new visual angle for the research of international relations field.A close observation on“ASEAN WAY”,which is the unique way of organizing and processing of ASEAN member’s interactions,and its“pneuma”—ASEAN consciousness by the theory of“social construction”,what emerged is ASEAN WAY’s structural deficiency in such aspects as cultural identity,ideational structure and social norms.
There are quite a number of oversea Chinese who live in Singapore but they speak and learn Chinese as a second foreign language.Most oversea Chinese both in Singapore and the world have shown great concerns to this phenomenon.Then through their effort,the education of Chinese and other languages have co-existed since last century.Therefore,the edˉucation of Chinese is not a national problemnor a sensitive issue,but the development of its own education is not so optimistic and problems still exist.With these in view,the paper provides correlative reference about these problems and the solutions to the present plight of the Chinese language caused by Singapore’s language policies and reality.Then it suggests opportunities and challenges the oversea Chinese will face in their development of the education.
