General transmission method based on PXI platform for physical experiments

In this paper,a general method of data transmission system design on PXI platform is proposed.It can be used in readout system design for physical experiments.It aims at providing reusable and general interfaces for customized design of PXI while maintaining the transmission performance.It has three main features:(1)universal logic hardware interface,(2)ethernet based socket software interface,and(3)specific and simple data transmission protocol.Data transmission on PXI bus can be realized with the said two universal interfaces coordinated by this specific protocol.Test shows that this method is feasible and stable.This method can be easily reused in readout system designs for different experiments.

Half-lives of double β^- -decay with two neutrinos

Nuclear double β--decay with two neutrinos is an important decay mode for some unstable nuclei. Based on the available experimental data of nuclear double β--decay, we propose that there is a law between the logarithm of double β--decay half-lives and the reciprocal of the decay energy. The physics behind the law is discussed and it is found that this is associated with the universal properties of the weak interaction. This doubleβ--decay law is similar to the famous Geiger-Nuttall law of α-decay. The law is applied to predictions of the nuclear double β--decay half-lives for six even-even nuclei from Z = 84 to Z = 98 and we found that232 Th is very interesting for future experiments. The branching ratios between double β--decay and α-decay are also estimated for the six even-even nuclei and this is useful for future experimental search of new emitters of doubleβ--decay.

Some Key Problems Related to Radioactive Ion Beam Physics被引量:1

The latest progress made in the field of radioactive ion beam physics is outlined and the key problems still under investigation are indicated. The focal points are the limit of nuclear existence, shell evolution and new magic numbers, halo and cluster structures, new excitation modes, and strong coupling between reaction channels. This field is still at a starting phase and much more new outcomes are foreseen.

New Geiger-Nuttall law of odd-Z nuclei and long-lived island beyond the stable line被引量:1

Recently,we analyze the α-decay data of even-Z nuclei and propose the new Geiger-Nuttall law where the effects of the quantum numbers of α-core relative motion are naturally embedded in the law [Physical Review C 85,044608(2012)].In this paper,we firstly test whether the new law without any change of parameters can be applied to the α-decays of odd-Z nuclei which are more complicated than those of even-even nuclei.Then the nuclear shell effect around N=126 is analyzed for very proton-rich nuclei with Z=85-92 based on the data of α-decay energies and half-lives.A long-lived island beyond the stable line is proposed where the half-lives of nuclei on this island are abnormally long.The mechanism of the appearance of the island and its significance to other mass ranges are discussed.

Knockout Reaction Mechanism for ~6He^+

A knockout reaction experiment was carried out by using the 6He beam at 82.5 MeV/nucleon impinging on CH2 and C targets. The a core fragments at forward angles were detected in coincidence with the recoiled protons at larger angles. From this exclusive measure- ment the valence nucleon knockout mechanism and the core knockout mechanism are separated. This study provides a basis for the exclusive spectroscopic investigation of the exotic nuclei.

Experimental Study of Two-Neutron Correlation in ~8He^+

A neutron detector array was used in a breakup reaction experiment at RIKEN with an 82.5 MeV/u SHe beam impinging on the CH2 and C targets. The array was calibrated using the cosmic ray, the 7 ray from the 6He+Pb reaction and the mono-energetic neutrons from the 7Li(p, n)TBe(g.s.+0.43 MeV) reaction. The position resolution, timing resolution and neutron de- tection efficiency were obtained accordingly. Cross-talk rejection conditions were developed based on analysis of the data taken from the 7Li(p, n)TBe(g.s.+0.43 MeV) test experiment, and finally a preliminary two-neutron correlation function for the SHe breakup reaction was investigated.

Study of Isotopic Distribution of the Projectile-like Fragments Produced in the ^(17,18)N + ^(197)Au Reactions at 33 MeV/u

The experimental data of the isotopic distribution for projectile-like fragments are presented for the 17,18N + 197Au reaction at 33 MeV/u. The width of the isotopic distributions for lSN projectile is significantly broader than that for 17N projectile, and the average N/Z ratio of the former shifts to higher neutron number side. As long as the realistic nucleon density distribution is used, the isotopic distribution for fragments is reproduced by the simple abrasion-ablation model calculation, which thus provides an independent way to determine the surface distribution of the nuclear matter density for neutron-rich nuclei.

Recoiled Proton Tagged Knockout Reaction for 8He

An experiment for knockout reaction induced by SHe beam at 82.5 MeV/nucleon on CH2 and C targets was carried out. The 6He and 4He core fragments at forward angles and the recoiled protons at large angles were detected coincidently. From this exclusive measurement the valence nucleon knockout mechanism and the core knockout mechanism are separated, which can be applied to the exclusive spectroscopic study on the structure of exotic nuclei.

Performance Calibration Using Cosmic Rays for the Multi-Neutron Correlation Spectrometer被引量:1

Efficient calibration methods have been applied to a complex neutron detector array by using the cosmic-ray muons. Through a differential operation on the time difference spectrum, the two edges of this spectrum can be precisely determined, corresponding to the geometrical two ends of the bar, and therefore the relationship between the position and time difference spectrum can be deduced for each bar. The alignment between different bars is realized by choosing cosmic- rays which are perpendicular to the bars. The position resolutions are extracted through a track fitting procedure which uses all tracks detected coincidently by the whole system, together with a simulation analysis. A method is also developed to calibrate the deposited energy by using cosmic-rays at different incident angles.
